We're making progress on the home-front. More specifically, the foyer. Our existing chest was too small for the space.
Ever since my entry on chests, I could not take my mind off those lovely pieces at Overstock.com. With a great sale during President's Day weekend and free shipping, it was an irresistible offer. So I claimed the chest that spoke to me.
It is actually a secretary.
You could have dangled brand new diamond stud earrings before me and I still would have selected furniture, if given the choice.
Me with my cubic zirconium studs are now anxious to decorate the space. First things first, I must move the existing print to another room. It just does not work with this piece. And the plate either needs a smaller stand or I need to replace the plate with a larger one. Or the plate just needs to be moved to another location.
And what do I do about the doorbell chime? It's plastic and I do not like it at all.
So now the inspiration-seeking begins again.
It is all about scale. And I find this to be quite the challenge because I am terrible at pleasing the eye. It takes numerous tries before I get it right. Then my guy will question what I've done and I decide to start all over, attempting to seek good karma as I rearrange everything again.
Looking at the photo below is a good example of not only achieving scale with accessories but how to accessorize a small chest. Hm-mm...perhaps the previous chest could have stayed put. Well, we will not go there right now. Let's move on.
A mirror flanked by 2 lamps and all arranged within eye level. At least to my eyes and height. My guy's eyes given his height tell a different story.
Highlighting artwork with proper lighting over the chest, paired with candelabras and a decorative plate. It's not overly fussy and quite classy.
I'm getting a little off-topic by sharing the photo below, but I couldn't help myself. I love it. Mirrors are fabulous to decorate with.
I've implanted a bit of inspiration into my head from this resourceful journey. Let's see where it goes.
And we are not going to neglect the small chest that kept the space warm for the new piece in the foyer. It's new home is in our upstairs hallway waiting to be primped and pampered just like the new one.
In order to fund that project, I will forsake the expense of a membership at the gym. ;=)
